Daniel Silver
The New Art Gallery Walsall, UK
Until 2nd June
A major solo exhibition by acclaimed contemporary sculptor Daniel Silver is currently on show at The New Art Gallery Walsall, celebrating their longstanding commitment to sculpture while making links between historic and contemporary art. The gallery is home of the prestigious Garman Ryan Collection, and this year marks the 60th anniversary of the great 20th century sculptor Jacob Epstein’s death.
Silver’s most ambitions exhibition in the UK to date juxtaposes existing works such as ‘Rock Formations’ – monumental sculptures which collage stone and bronze heads onto large Carrara marble – alongside new work, including a series of mannequins, which present links between the classical and contemporary depiction of the human body. The artist has also created a new mannequin commission in the gallery’s Window Box, connecting with Walsall’s town centre landscape in an era of change for the British high street.
Several events will also take place during the exhibition’s run, including an Artist In-Conversation talk with Daniel Silver, drawing and modelling workshops in response to the sculptural works, and a livestreamed tour of the works.
The exhibition is part of the gallery’s season launch of four new exhibitions recently opened, Daniel Silver is on until June 2nd
