CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: EMERGENCY 2017

Aspex’s international open submission competition EMERGENCY is back for 2017 and currently taking submissions.

Artists working in all media are invited to apply, with a maximum of ten artists selected from submissions to take part in a group show which will open in December 2017. During this exhibition a winner will be chosen to receive a solo exhibition at Apex in 2018, as well as a fee of £1,000.

This is an international opportunity, and anyone considering themselves to be an emerging artist is eligible to apply. Past winners include Susan Collis (2003), Tim Machin (2005), Cathy Ward & Eric Wright (2007), Kihlberg & Henry (2009), Charlie Tweed (2011), Jim Howieson (2013) and Maya Ramsay (2015). Selectors for this year’s exhibition are Joanne Bushnell, Director of Aspex; Lindsay Friend, Director IMT Gallery (Image Music Text); Cathy Lomax, Artist & Director Transition Gallery and Adam Sutherland, Director Grizedale Arts.

Located in Portsmouth’s Gunwharf Keys, Aspex is dedicated to presenting the most interesting, exciting, playful, challenging and creative contemporary art, from both new and established artists. With a commitment to supporting emerging artists, EMERGENCY is just one of the ways the gallery engages new audiences with visual art. The biennial exhibition was established in 2003 and continues to be a highlight in the art calendar.

Deadline for submissions is Sunday 13 August 2017
